Towards the end of the year we tend to reflect on what happened and what we accomplished in the year that passed. I am very happy that chemometrics goes forward rapidly on two fronts - exciting new applications, and better theory and methods.
I am very pleased to announce the official kick-off for Chemometrics.se. You will recognize many "old" features such as the popular Tutorial section, but we have also added a new Editorial section, with more focus on being an Editorial, rather than a tutorial.
In chemistry, as well in other branches of science, there is a steady trend towards the use of more variables (properties) to characterize observations (e.g. samples, molecules, proc-esses). Wavelet analysis and compression, followed by PCA or PLS and their generalizations, form a simple and practical tool, allowing computations to be made using a much-reduced set of variables, but without any loss of information.
